Onsite vs. Offsite

The difference between onsite SEO and offsite is SEO is quite simple. Onsite is everything that is on your website including images, original content, links, etc. Offsite is everything that is off your website. This can include building backlinks and increasing engagement through social media. Below is a graphic that highlights the main differences between onsite and offsite SEO.

Why Onsite SEO Is Important?

Onsite SEO is important because of how it affects your website. Without good optimization, it will be a poor user experience. User experience is something that Google takes into account when ranking websites. Onsite SEO accounts for almost one third of Google’s ranking algorithm. If users are clicking on your website and instantly leaving, this signals to Google that this website isn’t relevant for that specific query, which will drop your rankings for those keywords. Having an optimized website will increase relevancy and user experience, which in turn, will increase your page rank on Google. Below are some tactics and tips to improve your website’s Onsite SEO.

Tactics, Tips, and Tricks

Title Tag

The title tag appears when a search query is made. This allow the user to see what your page is about and how relevant it is for the users search. It is best to keep a title tag to about 50-60 characters, as anything longer will be cut off. You also want the title tag to be unique, giving a user another reason to click on your page

Meta Description

The meta description is what appears below the title tag and gives a brief summary of the page. This allows users to gain insight on what the page is about, influencing whether they will click on the page or not. A good meta description plays a big factor in a higher CTR (Click Through Rate), which can increase page rank. An ideal meta description can vary in lengths, but should range from 50 – 160 characters.

Internal Links

Internal Links will increase traffic throughout the website and will allow older pages to gain clicks. When users click on these other pages, it shows to Google that those pages are relevant to the user, which can help to get a page indexed, increase page rank, etc.

Original Content

While this may seem obvious, it is very important. Google wants to see users interacting with original and unique content. Duplicate content will drop your page very low in Google’s page ranking, so posting content that is unique, quality, informing, etc. is imperative. A page should meet the threshold of at least 300 words.

Short URL Links

Shorter page ranks will let Google and the user know what the page is about. Including keywords in the URL is imperative, as this will help to increase page rank and induce clicks.
