Keyword Research Tips to Help YOUR Business! Ben, December 14, 2023December 14, 2023 When starting a restaurant, you want to get your name out there and there are many methods of doing that, such as billboards, social media, word of mouth, etc, to increase traffic in house. When creating a website, the main goal is to gain traffic on the website (obviously). To do this, you have to know what exactly people are searching for and why they are searching for it. Using keyword research will help with this and will make your website successful now! What are Keywords and How do They Help You? Keywords are words and phrases that users put into different search engines, such as Google. Anytime a search happens, a keyword is involved. Keywords are involved in any type of search, such as a student doing a research paper or a dad trying to buy their kid a car. Keywords can be informative (like the student doing a research paper) or commercialized (like the dad buying their kid a car). All of these keywords have value. Figuring out their value, however, is where keyword research comes into play. The Purpose of Keyword Research Google searches happen for one reason: the user is looking for a solution. This solution could be informative or commercial (as mentioned earlier). Doing keyword research allows a digital marketer to see what words provide the best solution, which in turn, create the most value. In other words, it shows a marketer what terms are searched the most. The more a keyword is searched, the more traffic can come to your website, allowing for an increased chance to achieve whatever your goals are (leads, conversions, email sign ups, etc.). When done correctly, effective keyword research can increase page rank, which will increase website traffic. Tips for Doing Keyword Research When doing keyword research, you have to use a tool that will allow you to see key statistics on certain keywords or related keywords. One tool that is great for this is the Google Keyword Planner. The keyword planner allows you to type in exact keywords or phrases and gives important stats including average monthly searches, competition, bid prices, and more. Below are some great keyword research tips to get started. Create Topics Creating a topic will help you center your research around it. For example, if your topic was “SUV” you may want to search up “best SUVs” in the keyword planner. This will bring up thousands of keywords and phrases that are similar to the topic. Filtering After creating a topic and searching in the keyword planner, there will be thousands of keywords to go through. Obviously, no one can go through all of those keywords. However, there are ways to narrow down the keywords to find those with the most value. For example, in bigger search query areas, like SUV’s, you may want to only focus on keywords that have 50,000+ average monthly searches. This will take the number from thousands of keywords to the low hundreds. Another way to filter is by brand. Taking out brand related key words can be a great way to establish a baseline strategy. Filtering in a spreadsheet, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets may be easier than in the keyword planner. Below is an example of a filtered keyword research spreadsheet in Excel for the topic “SUV.” Getting Creative It can be challenging to cover every part of a business or product. Getting creative is the best way to combat this. Thinking about what you are looking for when purchasing that product may help. Culture and language differences may also occur. For example, if the product you are doing research for is offered in a different country, there may be language differences. Different countries who speak the same language may refer to certain features of a product with different verbiage. Check Out This Article! Liked this article about keyword research?
